If you would like to help us running X:site Newbury then join the X:site team! (Click here if you are under 18 and would like to join the X:site Junior team!)
What does a team member do?
Duties and tasks vary depending on the needs of the team and the children but we need team members in the following areas:
Group leaders: working with a small group of children, or supporting children with
special needs
Support team: helping with tasks such as registration, making refreshments and acting as a steward
Technical team: helping run the PA/audio visual and technical side of the event
Band: musicians to play in the worship band (please note that band members also work with the children alongside the group leaders)
Non-event team: helping with jobs between the events such as envelope stuffing, photocopying and buying resources
When will I be needed?
X:site takes place on a Saturday evening once every other month. Team members need to be available on the event Saturdays (see here)
Commitment levels will vary depending on the role.
On the day, the event will start at 6pm, however group leaders, technical team and the band are expected to arrive at 3pm. This is in order to pray together, prepare the programme for the evening and build relationships with one another. We feel this is an important time for sharing our gifts and supporting each other in our ministry within our different churches, but networking together. All team are invited to attend, however we recognise that support roles may be ideal for parents, or those leaders who bring children from their church, so are unable to commit to the extra time required.
Who can be a team member?
All team members must be:
- committed to Christ
- enthusiastic and energetic
- mature enough to be responsible for children
- willing to apply for a criminal records disclosure
- over 18 years old (if you are 14-18 years old you can apply to be a Junior Team member - email newbury@xsiteuk.org for more details)
How do I apply?
Due to the nature of our work, all team members who will have contact with children must go through the Scripture Union recruitment procedure which includes providing a reference from a church leader, agreeing to work under the Scripture Union statement of faith, and completing an enhanced CRB disclosure check. Please email newbury@xsiteuk.org if you have any questions regarding this.
Roles involving registration, hosting, resources, set up and set down will not require a CRB or reference.
If you have already served on a Scripture Union Team (Spring Harvest, COINS etc...) you will only be required to complete an update form and obtain updated CRB if required.
Follow the instructions below to apply to be part of the team. Once we have received your application, a CRB pack will be sent to you in the post. (Please note: as portability with CRBs is no longer possible, you must complete a Scripture Union CRB clearance even if you already have a CRB from another organisation)
1. Download the full application form or ancilliary form (for support roles) and extra information sheet. Complete and return to Scripture Union (the address is on the form)
2. Download the reference form, print out 2 copies and give to 2 referees. They need to return the form directly to Scripture Union (the address is on the form)
3. Download and read the "Voluntary Ministry with Scripture Union" leaflet
